“Why should I join?”

Over the past year, the South Loop Dog PAC has organized cleanups at Grant Bark Park and Coliseum Park Dog Run, and we’ve supplied thousands and thousands of poo bags to the dispensers at the two parks. We also organized the hugely successful Halloween Bash at Coliseum Park and held three very popular winter Mutt Meetups at DogoneFun. These events were so well-received that we’ve decided that they should be a regular part of our winter schedule!

We’ve also been busy advocating for dog-friendly design at the proposed Fred Anderson Park DFA. We’ve now been involved for over three years in this project, and our efforts are actually bearing fruit! The project manager at the Chicago Park District has been receptive to many of the suggestions we’ve made to improve the experience of dogs and their people at the park, and the design has been getting better and better. You’re invited to read the latest update on our blog.

We have a number of other ongoing projects. For example, we’re still trying to work with the CPD to reconfigure the south pathway to Grant Bark Park and improve wayfinding signage to the DFA. And board members will be meeting next week with the project manager for the Coliseum Park redesign in order to share ideas for improvements there. We’re also supporting and helping develop a DFA committee for the new d’Angelo Park DFA; that dog park is not particularly well-conceived and we’ve already proposed a number of improvements to be made. Another important effort is toeducate folks about dog behavior, whether around the neighborhood or at the parks. Look for new DFA informational signage educating kids about dogs and providing important guidelines for dog park patrons.

We will soon be organizing the Spring Cleanups at Grant Bark Park and the Coliseum Park Dog Run - watch for the announcements on Facebook and Twitter! – and we hope you’ll be willing to pitch in. Of course, we’ll continue to supply dog poop bags at both the South Loop dog parks – over 20000 bags a year. That gets expensive!

We need your support, whether as a member, at our meetings, or in the parks, to continue our efforts!
